To Live in connection with your body

Your body is infinitely wise. It knows what you need much sooner than your brain. Every moment of the day it gives you signals about what is needed. Just think of hunger, thirst or if you have to urinate or defecate.

But your body also communicates with you in all kinds of other ways. We often call this “complaints” or “illness”. At first you have an uncomfortable feeling that is hardly noticeable. Slowly this grows into pain that is more difficult to ignore. Until the body starts to send more and more intense signals and dysfunction arises: what we have then come to call “disease”. In our society we are used to solving complaints and illness with external intervention. We take a painkiller, try to suppress the dysfunction with mostly unnatural, “toxic” substances and / or we cut what is bothering us. Sometimes this is also (temporarily) necessary, but we forget to listen to what the body is actually trying to say. We silence it, causing the body to look for another way to make clear what is really needed. This can also be done very well with natural remedies or healing methods if you do not also look at what your body is trying to convey to you.

As women, we are blessed with a great mechanism that gives us the opportunity to do what we really need every month. Your menstrual cycle has enormous healing power in it. By moving with your hormone fluctuations during your menstrual cycle, different aspects and qualities of yourself are addressed. Every cycle you have the opportunity to let go of what no longer serves you and to adjust your life, work and relationships. Simply by listening to what your body tells you.

Also during menopause and after menopause (that is the last menstruation) the signals from your body are invaluable. Hot flashes can indicate, for example, when you experience stress. This way you can find out what excites you, where you slow yourself down or where you have to change things in your life and / or work.

Learning to listen to your body again is one of the pillars for me to walk smoothly through life in a natural way and to stay vital, happy and healthy for as long as possible. The cycles in your body are your direct measure of how you are doing. Knowledge of the cycles outside of yourself gives you the opportunity to respond flexibly to changes that we have less influence on. The stress we feel when something seems to be happening to us that puts us in a survival mode. More on this later.
